Practical skills in 60 to 90 minutes, without taking your team away from their work
Not every team can take two days away from their work for training. Our Lunch and Learn workshops introduce a subject in 60 to 90 minutes, in person or online. They give staff practical skills they can use straight away, and help managers decide where deeper training would add the most value.
Short does not mean superficial. Each workshop is led by trainers with operational experience in the subject, so the content is practical rather than theoretical.
Why lunch and learn workshops work
Short, focused sessions suit busy teams. Lunch and learn workshops fit around the working day, need little planning and can reach a large number of staff without disrupting operations.
They are particularly useful when a team needs a practical introduction before committing to a full course, or when an organisation wants to raise awareness across many departments at once. They also help managers test which subjects are most relevant to their staff, and they are a quick way to respond when a recent incident has exposed a gap in knowledge.
Online due diligence for HR teams
This 90-minute workshop introduces open-source research to HR and recruitment teams. It covers what can be found about a candidate online, how to search safely and lawfully, how to check that what you find relates to the right person, and how to record it properly. Staff leave with a clear understanding of what open-source checks can and cannot tell them, and when a professional check is needed instead.
Establishing the facts: investigative interviewing
This 90-minute workshop introduces a structured investigative interviewing framework and the interpretation of behavioural indicators. It suits HR, compliance and legal teams who handle disciplinary, grievance or internal investigation interviews. Participants learn how to plan an interview, how to open it well and how to notice when an account does not add up.
Elicitation and influencing skills
This 90-minute workshop introduces elicitation, the art of drawing information out through everyday conversation, alongside influencing techniques that move a conversation towards the outcome you need. It is relevant to anyone whose work depends on conversations that matter, including sales, negotiation, due diligence and client relationships.
Social engineering: how vulnerable is your team?
This 60-minute session shows how criminals, competitors and hostile states manipulate staff to obtain information or access. It covers phishing, pretext calls, fake online profiles and approaches at conferences and on business trips, and the simple steps that reduce the risk. Because every member of staff is a potential target, it is suitable for the whole organisation.
From workshop to full course
Each lunch and learn workshop is an introduction to one of our full courses. Online Due Diligence for HR Teams leads into Open-Source Intelligence & Cyber Investigation. Establishing the Facts leads into Investigative Interviewing & Behavioural Indicators, and Elicitation and Influencing Skills leads into the full Elicitation & Influencing Skills course. The Social Engineering session leads into Countering Corporate Espionage and Security & Behavioural Awareness.
Many organisations start with a lunch and learn workshop, then commission the full course for the teams that need it most.
How the workshops are delivered
Workshops are delivered in person at your premises or online, for a single team or repeated across an organisation. Each one is built around your sector and the situations your staff face, and can be delivered in English, Cantonese, Mandarin, Russian, French or German.
Like all our training, each workshop follows the Explain, Demonstrate, Imitate and Practise model. Participants do not just hear about a technique. They see it and try it.
A short session with a lasting effect
Lunch and learn workshops are a simple way to build awareness and practical skills without taking people away from their work for long. They are also one of the best ways to find out where a full training programme would make the biggest difference to your organisation.
