Lawyers, barristers, paralegals and in-house legal teams
Training for legal, compliance, HR and investigation teams who need findings that hold up. Our courses cover investigation, interviewing, witness statements, whistleblowing, financial crime and open-source research, and are taught by former UK detectives who have conducted hundreds of investigative interviews.
Since 2014, Futurum Risk has delivered more than 500 training programmes in over 60 countries. Law enforcement agencies, government departments, security contractors and NGOs have trusted us to train their intelligence, surveillance and investigation teams.
Practical training designed for legal, compliance, HR and investigation teams who establish the facts, take evidence and report on matters that may face legal or regulatory scrutiny. Our courses range from investigation and interviewing to witness statements, whistleblowing, financial crime and open-source research, and each one can be delivered on its own or combined into a longer programme.
This training gives investigators the disciplines to run an investigation from the first allegation to the final report, including handling evidence, CCTV and digital material, interviewing and report writing. Based on the UK police training model and delivered by former senior detectives, it is adapted for corporate, law enforcement and healthcare teams.
How an organisation responds to the first report of a problem often decides the outcome of the whole investigation. Evidence is lost, witnesses are approached in the wrong order, and conclusions are reached before the facts are known. The disciplines that prevent this are the same for a police detective, a compliance officer and a healthcare manager.
Our investigation training is based on the UK police training model and underpinned by College of Policing frameworks. It is delivered by former senior UK detectives who have led homicide, serious and organised crime, counter-terrorism and financial crime investigations, and it is adapted for three audiences: corporate investigation teams, law enforcement agencies and healthcare organisations.
The corporate programme was developed by an accredited PIP Level 2 investigator and has been delivered to Richemont Asia Pacific security and HR teams and to corporate investigation teams across the region. Every participant receives a course workbook and an individual end-of-course report.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
Most interviews go wrong because they were not properly planned. This programme teaches the PEACE model of investigative interviewing alongside the reading of behavioural indicators, so interviewers can plan an interview, manage a difficult one and establish an accurate account of what happened.
Most interviews go wrong not because people ask the wrong questions, but because they have not planned properly, cannot read the conversation, and miss what is actually being communicated. When someone is under stress, concealing something or unsure how to answer, their behaviour changes, and a trained interviewer notices where.
This programme combines a structured, methodical approach to interviewing with the ability to read and respond to behavioural indicators in real time. It is built on the PEACE model, introduced for police in England and Wales in 1993 after years of unreliable confessions obtained through oppressive questioning. PEACE is non-accusatory and designed to gather accurate information rather than force an outcome, which is why it suits lawyers, HR and compliance teams as well as investigators.
Behavioural indicators are not a lie detector. They show you which topics to probe further. The programme has been delivered to HFW in Singapore, Clifford Chance, John Swire & Sons HR teams, and compliance and legal teams across Asia Pacific. The full workshop adds actor-led simulations built around the conversations your team actually has.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
This programme takes compliance, HR and legal teams through an internal investigation from the moment a whistleblowing report arrives. It covers triage, planning, interviews and evidence handling, and how to reach findings that are fair, well evidenced and able to withstand challenge.
When a whistleblowing report comes in, what you do first matters enormously. How you triage, scope, interview and document decides if your process is defensible, if your findings hold up, and if the organisation is protected legally and reputationally.
This programme walks through the full investigation from the moment a report lands. It is built on the programme we designed for Johnson Electric to manage high volumes of internal allegations across manufacturing operations in several countries, and it was designed and delivered by former UK detectives.
Delegates work through realistic scenarios covering triage, interview planning and execution, evidence handling, documentation and writing defensible findings. Everything is practical and based on what actually happens in a corporate investigation.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
Based on the UK Achieving Best Evidence approach, this course teaches participants to plan and conduct a witness interview and turn it into a thorough, accurate and legally sound signed statement. It follows the method our investigators use when taking statements for law firms in complex and contentious cases.
A thorough, accurate and legally sound witness statement supports a case at every stage. A poor one can undermine a position that would otherwise be strong.
This programme covers the full process of achieving best evidence from a witness, from instruction through to a signed, structured statement with a witness credibility assessment and an investigative leads document. It uses the method our investigators follow when taking statements for law firms, having interviewed hundreds of witnesses in serious and complex cases involving financial crime, corporate misconduct and litigation.
Participants learn to use behavioural cues to tell when a witness is forthcoming, when they are holding back and which areas need further probing, without leading or contaminating the account.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
These two linked workshops teach participants to read the behaviour and intentions behind what people say, and to respond in a way that moves the conversation forward. The skills apply directly to negotiations, client meetings, interviews and leadership conversations.
In almost every professional conversation, more is being communicated than the words. Reading what is really happening, and responding in a way that moves the conversation in the direction you want, directly affects the outcome of negotiations, client relationships, interviews and leadership.
This workshop has been delivered to CAPCO's consulting and client-facing teams and to John Swire & Sons HR professionals. It draws on behavioural science and on our trainers' experience in covert intelligence, undercover operations and high-stakes interviewing.
The first part focuses on interpreting: understanding what people are communicating beyond their words and recognising when something needs to be probed. The second focuses on influencing: structuring conversations, building trust and moving people towards an outcome without pressure or manipulation. Simulations are designed with the client and use trained actors.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
Bribery, money laundering, sanctions evasion and terrorist financing carry serious regulatory consequences, and each level of an organisation needs different training. This portfolio gives senior executives a focused briefing on their obligations, managers a practical guide to running compliance procedures and frontline staff the skills to recognise and report suspicious activity.
Financial crime covers bribery and procurement fraud, money laundering, sanctions evasion and terrorist financing. The regulatory obligations are significant and the consequences of getting it wrong are serious, but each level of an organisation needs something different from its training.
This portfolio is tiered. Senior executives receive a focused briefing on the issue and their obligations. Managers get a practical guide to designing and running compliance procedures. Frontline staff, often the first line of defence, learn to recognise suspicious activity and know what to do about it.
Every programme is practical and scenario-based, and is tailored to your sector and risk profile.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
Built for analysts, researchers and paralegals in law firms and corporates, this course teaches participants to find information others miss, verify it and present it in a form that holds up to legal and regulatory scrutiny, with a focus on the Asia Pacific jurisdictions where these teams work most.
Used properly, open-source intelligence is one of the most powerful research tools available to corporate and legal professionals. Used poorly, it wastes time and produces results nobody can rely on.
This course teaches delegates to find information they did not know existed, verify it and present it in a format that is useful and defensible. It covers the full research environment, from the surface web to the deep and dark web, across corporate registries, social media, domain databases and specialist tools, with a focus on the jurisdictions corporate and legal teams in Asia Pacific work in most.
It is delivered by our Asia Pacific research lead, who carries out open-source investigations across Greater China, South East Asia and internationally, including pre-litigation assessments, asset tracing and persons tracing. It is available online across Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia, and in person.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

HR professionals handling disciplinary and grievance matters
Corporate investigation and security teams
Police and law enforcement investigators
Healthcare managers responsible for incident investigations
Executives, managers and frontline staff in regulated sectors

Each programme is planned around your team, so the time is spent on the skills they will use.
We discuss what your team needs to be able to do, who will attend and what they already know. Where it helps, we run a training needs analysis and a short pre-course questionnaire. You then receive a proposal with a full course outline, tailored to your team.
We build the scenarios and exercises from your own environment and agree the content, format, location and dates with you.
Each course follows the Explain, Demonstrate, Imitate and Practise (EDIP) model. The trainer explains and demonstrates each skill, participants copy it under guidance, then practise it in scenarios until it holds under pressure, with trained role players where the course calls for them.
Every participant receives a course workbook. End-of-course reports for individuals and the sponsoring organisation are available on request.
Most courses can be taken in more than one format, delivered in person, online or as a blended programme, at your premises or a venue we arrange.
A short session that introduces the subject and the risks, suited to managers and larger groups.
A hands-on workshop on one area of a course, built around your team's work.
The complete course, tailored to your team, for those who will use the skills day to day.
Prepares your own trainers to deliver the course, so the capability stays in your organisation.
Tell us about your team, the cases they handle and what they need to be able to do. We will recommend the right course or combination of courses and send you a proposal.
